For my first blog, I decided to write about my home state in America: Massachusetts.
In Japan, Massachusetts isn’t as popular as New York or California.
But do you know about Harvard or MIT?
What about the Boston Red Sox?
Or have you ever visited “Cape Cod” in Disney Sea?
If you have, you know a little bit about Massachusetts!
My home state is small (#7 smallest!) but we are first in a lot of American history.
Harvard University, for example, is America’s first university. And we also had the first free public library. In my home state, we really believe that everyone should be able to learn and go to school.
A surprising “first” that I learned recently is: Manjiro Nakahama, a Japanese fisherman rescued by Captain Whitfield in 1841, was the first Japanese person to officially live in the USA!
If you like basketball, in Springfield, Massachusetts we have the Basketball Hall of Fame. Springfield is where the game of basketball was created and the museum has a lot of interesting facts about basketball’s history and most famous players.
My home state also has a lot of beautiful nature. Our winter is a little long (like Aomori and Hokkaido), but we have beautiful mountains, forests, and beaches. So you can enjoy nature in many ways all year.
